What is a septum piercing?

Septum Piercings

Nostrils aren't the only popular location for nose piercings. Many people enjoy the tribal look of a septum piercing. In essence, this piercing involves a 16 gauge to 12 gauge needle to pierce through the cartilage between your two nostrils, on the inside of your nose. To get a better idea, think of a bull with a ring in its nose.

Septum piercings take about eight weeks to heal, so using a standard nose ring, such as a captive bead ring (a ring with a bead that loosens and tightens) or a barbell, is best until you heal. After this point, you can switch to more tribal-looking jewelry such as nose bones and wood jewelry, if you choose.
