If it's not stainless steel, real gold or sterling silver, you could have a reaction to the jewelry. Nickel, tin and other base metals can cause allergic reaction or even infection in fresh piercings. Most stores label their jewelry with the material that they're made of, but if the ring isn't labeled, make sure to ask. If the salesperson doesn't know, you should probably shop somewhere else.
